Gilles Bourlet is a self-taught visual artist.
A key element of his working philosophy is provoking unexpected encounters and elaborating upon the impact of this process.
Once a secondary school teacher in France, also a workshop leader for adults with learning difficulties. Since then Gilles has designed and coordinated cultural events, festivals, exhibitions, stands, large scale publicity objects for different companies and local communities. He has also worked closely with a dance school for children and teenagers.
Since 2003 he is a creative practitioner resident in UK. He has worked on Creative Partnerships projects in primary schools in Norfolk and Essex, on an intergenerational project for Norfolk Arts Partnership Creative Change programme, and he is now an artist consultant for Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia. Currently 2007 working on Creativity as Practice (CAP 3), a course for secondary school teachers in partnership with the Faculty of Education, Cambridge and Creative Partnerships Tendring.
Gilles’ design work in the UK includes sets for Theatre, exhibitions and Festival trophies. His personal production consists of assemblages and installations, (solo and group exhibitions) and artist residencies in UK and France.
As a musical saw player he develops performances with others combining music and bi-lingual readings.
