Karen Hansen is a Mechanical Engineer and is completing her PhD in Engineering at Cambridge University, researching chemical kinetics in computational fluid dynamics. In the past she has worked as a combustion Engineer with Rolls-Royce. She has directed a science promotion program in Canada which fostered a love of science and engineering amongst KS2-equivalent students through hands-on projects. She has a particular interest in the link between creative thinking and the complex problem-solving skills required to engineer solutions.
